How Ironclaw handles personal data

Privacy Policy

Effective 26 August 2026

Privacy at a glance
  • Steam is the primary player identity.
  • Discord linking is optional.
  • We do not sell personal data.
  • Voice content is not intentionally recorded.
  • You may request access or deletion.

1. Scope and controller

This Policy explains how Ironclaw processes personal data through the Ironclaw game server, ironclaw.no, Ironclaw Companion, storage and reward services, proximity voice, the Discord application, and related administration tools.

The controller is the private operator of the Norway-based Ironclaw community project (“Ironclaw”, “we”, “us”). To contact the controller or exercise a privacy right, contact an administrator through the official Ironclaw Discord server or another official Ironclaw support channel and identify the request as a privacy request.

2. Data we process

Account and identity data

  • Steam ID, Steam profile or display name where available, in-game name, and account-link status.
  • Discord user ID, username or display name, server membership, relevant roles, and link status when you use the Discord application.
  • Companion installation identity, authentication tokens, sessions, and user-selected settings needed to connect your device.

Gameplay and service data

  • Server presence, species, growth, mutations, Prime progress, diet and elder state, skins, dinosaur snapshots, storage slots, rewards, inbox items, credits, and relevant timestamps.
  • Commands, confirmations, failures, moderation events, administrative actions, and audit records.
  • Approximate live game position, direction, activity, species, and friend visibility where required for maps, same-species friends, proximity voice, teleportation, or similar features.
  • Voice enrollment identifiers, private aliases, channel or shard assignment, and connection state.

Technical data

  • IP address, request time, device or browser information, application version, service logs, crash details, and security events.
  • Discord commands, button selections, and other interactions sent to the Ironclaw application. We do not need routine access to unrelated Discord message content when native application commands are used.

Ironclaw does not intentionally record or retain voice audio as part of ordinary proximity-voice operation. Audio is transmitted and processed so nearby players can hear it. Diagnostic metadata may be retained without retaining the audio content.

3. Sources of data

We receive data directly from you, your game client and Companion, the Ironclaw game server and plugins, Steam authentication, Discord when you interact with or link the application, and administrators performing authorized server tasks.

4. Why we process data and our legal bases

  • Provide requested services: authenticate you; operate storage, rewards, voice, friends, maps, Prime tracking, commands, and Discord features; and keep account state synchronized. The basis is performance of the service you request.
  • Legitimate community and security interests: protect accounts and infrastructure, prevent duplication and abuse, diagnose failures, preserve audit trails, moderate the server, and improve reliability.
  • Consent and user choice: enable optional linking, friend visibility, and optional integrations where consent is the appropriate basis. You may disable or unlink optional features.
  • Legal obligations: retain or disclose limited information where applicable law validly requires it.

We do not use personal data for advertising, sell it, or make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects solely by automated means.

5. How data is disclosed

Data is disclosed only as needed:

  • To Discord and Steam when you use their authentication or platform features, under their own policies.
  • To infrastructure, network, and hosting providers acting as service providers.
  • To authorized Ironclaw administrators for support, moderation, security, and operation.
  • To other players in limited form required by a feature—for example a private voice alias, a public species-only event, or an opted-in same-species friend's map marker.
  • To authorities or other recipients when required by law or necessary to protect rights and security.

We do not publish Steam IDs, Discord IDs, private storage contents, live locations, or account links as a public player directory.

6. Retention

Account links, storage, rewards, skins, and persistent gameplay features are generally retained while your Ironclaw account remains active or until deletion is requested. Live location, direction, presence, voice routing, and short-lived command state are kept only for the period needed to operate the feature.

Routine operational, command, and security logs are normally retained for up to 90 days unless a shorter period is sufficient or a longer period is reasonably necessary to investigate abuse, resolve a dispute, protect the Services, or comply with law. Deleted data may remain in restricted backups for up to 30 additional days before routine expiry.

Discord API data is deleted when it is no longer needed for the approved application function, when you request deletion, or when Ironclaw stops operating the Discord application, subject to limited legal and security exceptions.

7. Cookies and local storage

ironclaw.no uses necessary session cookies or equivalent storage to maintain Steam login and protect authenticated requests. Companion stores necessary identity, authentication, and preference data on your device. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

8. International processing

Discord, Steam, and infrastructure providers may process data outside Norway or the European Economic Area. Their processing and transfer safeguards are described in their respective privacy policies and terms. Ironclaw limits the data sent to those services to what the selected feature requires.

9. Security

We use measures such as scoped service credentials, private identity mappings, access controls, encrypted network connections where supported, restricted administration, and backups. No online system is completely secure, so you should also protect your Steam, Discord, and device accounts.

10. Your choices and rights

Depending on applicable law, including the GDPR, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of your personal data, and may object to certain processing or withdraw consent. Withdrawing consent does not affect earlier lawful processing. Some requests require verification through the linked Steam or Discord identity.

You can disable optional friend visibility, unlink supported integrations, leave the Discord server, remove the Discord application where available, or stop using Companion. Removing the bot or leaving Discord does not necessarily delete the separate Steam-linked Ironclaw account; request deletion if you want eligible linked data removed.

You may complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, Datatilsynet, or another competent supervisory authority.

11. Children

The Services are not directed to anyone below the minimum age required by applicable law or the connected game and platforms. If you believe a child has provided data without the required authorization, contact an Ironclaw administrator.

12. Changes and contact

We may update this Policy as features and legal requirements change. Material changes will be announced through the website or official Ironclaw community channels, and the effective date will be updated.

For privacy questions or requests, contact an administrator through the official Ironclaw Discord server or another official Ironclaw support channel. Include your linked in-game name and do not post private authentication tokens.
